La Di Da

So, since this is all still new to me, my page is quite drab and boring. My friend has offered to help me make it snazzy when we get to Lima!! So in a month or so I hope to have some substance to this and have it represent "The Bailey Bunch!!!" So please bare with me on that.

We had a check up with the Regional doctor from FL the other day and Jadzia is 16lbs. 9oz. and 27in long! She is doing great. I'm still bfeeding which is HUGE deal, since I almost gave up 2 weeks into it! Although she is supplemented with formula the sitters house. She's been eating pretty much what we eat for a bit now. She has her upper right tooth and her lower left one! Waiting til they come in good enough to get a good picture. She is just over 8 months....she hit the 8 month mark on January 18th! time is flying by way to fast! But she's such a joy to have and so darn funny!

Right now we're in the process of getting Little Miss her first tourist passport! We're really looking forward to showing her the world and although she won't remember we'll be sure to document everything for her to look back on. We have two big trips coming up one to Lima and one to London. We have about two days in between them to rest and recoup. Then we are coming to a close on the Island and back to the good 'ol U.S of A.

Its a love hate relationship I have with with this place! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the beaches, but everything else I could do without. I'm sure some people would think I'm crazy to not like living in the Caribbean, but visiting and living ON an island are two completely different things! I also happen to like four seasons.....well three: spring, summer and fall. Only one of which you get here. There is just something wrong with wearing summer attire year round. It's hard to get in the Thanksgiving and Christmas spirit here. The prices....YIKES! A gallon of gas: $6+; strawberries: $9; juice: $7; Blue Bunny ice cream: $15. And folks that's in US dollars! The people here are absolutely rude! You do find the occasional nice ones. I don't consider myself racist at all, but I have definitely been discriminated against. Before I could only imagine what it is like, but now I know and it's not cool. I have never disrespected someone because of their skin color and I sure as hell don't expect it either. When we had the mom's here for Christmas, my mom was telling me how nice everyone is here and I told her its because she's a tourist and they want your money. It made me sick when this one lady tried some crap with my mom and I was like, "Really???" This IS a third world country......and it looks like one outside of the beaches. Granted I have befriended a couple of the locals, but mostly I just stick to our little crew we have here.

Brian told me that I should probably not complain about living in Barbados to others back in the states, especially with they're spouses being deployed. He said I will most likely come of spoiled and snotty. Well, so what??? I have lived that life and I can compare it to my life back in the states and my life in Eastern Europe. I believe I earned the right to do so. I've been there, done that. I also don't like the lack of travel here. Living in Macedonia was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! We went to Paris, France; Munich and Garmisch, Germany; Budapest, Hungary; Thessaloniki, Greece; Austria; Switzerland; Liechtenstein. Sure if we had just a few more bucks we would have made it to Bulgaria, Croatia, etc. On a last note, the positives from this tour here in Barbados is: Brian finished his Bachelor's degree; we welcomed our perfect little girl, Jadzia; he was non-deployable for 3 years; and no field ops to partake in.

Okay, so that went to more of a vent/rant than planned. I'm just ready to get back to my house with my things! I will close for now and post later.

  1. You are not spoiled and snotty. You are realistic and honest. Sometimes living abroad is not as great as it sounds. Many of us are "grass is greener" people, but it's not always the case. And you are proving that to all of us! :)

  2. Thanks Sarah. I don't think he was saying I was, but that's how these women will perceive me!! But it's not like I'm pulling this out of nowhere. And I'm just going off my experiences, like when I come visit you and it's cold and dreary....I'm gonna LVOE it, but I know you are so over it!! haha
